Australian Shep Reference Sheet1

Just to let you know: There WILL be other sheets that include all the other Colors the Aussie comes in. Also, there will be a sheet regarding markings and trimmings, eye colors, and other related things. I KNOW that these things are included in this sheet... So I would like no comments regarding why said things are not included.

Colors of the Australian Shepherd:

Standard:
- Black
- Liver

Non-Standard:
- Blue
- Isabella
- Yellow (Not Shown)
- Sable (Not Shown)
- Sable Merle (Not Shown)

Standard Colors:

These colors are what is excepted by the breed standard. These colors are also the only ones that are accepted into Conformation Shows.

Black:

Possible Colors:
- Black
- Black with Copper
- Black with White
- Black with Copper and White

- Black Merle
- Black Merle with Copper
- Black Merle with White
- Black Merle with Copper and White

Genetic Makeup: Always remember that Black is dominate over Liver.

Black Dog: Black/black
Red Factored Dog: Black/liver

Liver:

Possible Colors:
- Liver
- Liver with Copper
- Liver with White
- Liver with Copper and White

- Liver Merle
- Liver Merle with Copper
- Liver Merle with White
- Liver Merle with Copper and White

Genetic Makeup: Always remember that Liver is recessive under black.

Liver Dog: Liver/liver

Black/black X Black/black: All puppies will be Black/black
Black/black X Liver/liver: All puppies will be Black/liver
Black/black X Black/liver: 75% of puppies will be Black/black, 25% will be Black/liver
Black/liver X Liver/liver: 50% of puppies will be Black/liver, 50% will be Liver/liver
Black/liver X Black/liver: 25% of puppies will be Black/black. 50% will be Black/liver. 25% will be Liver/liver
Liver/liver X Liver/liver: All puppies will be Liver/liver

Non-Standard Colors:

These colors, although are not allowed in Conformation Shows, there is nothing wrong with them. These colors do not harm the dog nor do they cause the dog to have health issues.

Blue (Diluted Black):

Diluted Black, also known has "Blue", is made from two Standard Black Dogs, each carrying one copy of the Dilute Gene, breeding together. Only 25% of the time will this breeding actually result in diluted puppies.

Possible Colors:
- Blue
- Blue with Copper
- Blue with White
- Blue with Copper and White

- Slate Merle
- Slate Merle with Copper
- Slate Merle with White
- Slate Merle with Copper and White

Genetic Makeup: Remember Blue is only a dilution of Black, and black is Dominate over Liver and Isabella.

Blue Dog: Blue/blue
Red Factored Blue: Blue/isabella

Isabella (Liver Dilute):

Diluted Liver, also known was "Isabella", is made from two Standard Colored Dogs, each carrying one copy of the Dilute Gene, breeding together. Only 25% of the time will this breeding actually result in diluted puppies.

Possible Colors:
- Isabella
- Isabella with Copper
- Isabella with White
- Isabella with Copper and White

- Lilac Merle
- Lilac Merle with Copper
- Lilac Merle with White
- Lilac Merle with Copper and White

Genetic Makeup: Remember, Isabella is just a diluted form of Liver, and Liver is recessive under Black.

Isabella Dog: Isabella/isabella

Possible Breedings:

Although some may say that breeding two Diluted Dogs together causes health issues, this is actually a myth. Diluted dogs are just as healthy as any Standard Colored dog and by breeding them together you get only healthy pups.

Blue/blue - Diluted Black

Blue/blue X Black/black: 100% of puppies will be Standard Black/black colored. 100% of puppies will carry one copy of the Dilute Gene.
Blue/blue X Liver/Liver: 100% of puppies will be Standard Black/liver colored. 100% of puppies will carry one copy of the Dilute Gene.
Blue/blue X Black/liver: 75% of puppies will be Standard Black/black colored. 25% of puppies will be Standard Black/liver Colored. 100% of puppies will carry one copy of Dilute Gene.
Blue/blue X Blue/blue: 100% of puppies will be Blue/blue.
Blue/blue X Isabella/isabella: 100% of puppies will be Blue/isabella.
Blue/blue X Blue/isabella: 75% of puppies will be Blue/blue. 25% of puppies will be Blue/isabella.
Isabella/isabella X Black/black: 100% of puppies will be the Standard Black/liver Color. 100% of puppies will carry one copy of Dilute Gene.

Isabella/isabella X Black/liver: 50% of puppies will be Standard Black/liver color. 50% of puppies will be Standard Liver/liver Color. 100% of puppies will carry one copy of the Dilute Gene.
